Felix Graf von Luckner Gesellschaft e.V.

On the occasion of von Luckner’s birthday – it is today, happy birthday Count  - a delegation of our society went to Papenburg. Here von Luckner in 1907 got his master’s certificate at the nautical college. The Mayor of Papenburg met us an got informed on our society. He was wondering why in Halle there is no street named after the Count. In Papenburg there is one. This and other facts are keeping memories awake.

We saw a lot and had a wonderful time staying in the Hotel “Graf Luckner” and had to promise to keep in touch with the people of Papenburg, we will do this!

Wie jedes Jahr seit 2010 läuteten auch dieses Mal wieder am 19. April um 10.55 Uhr die Glocken der Kirchen in Halle und Umgebung. Zur Erinnerung: im Jahre 1945 endete genau um diese Zeit der 2. Weltkrieg in Halle. In diesem Jahr verfolgte insbesondere der Ehrenvorsitzende unserer Gesellschaft, Herr Hans Goedecke, eine besondere Idee. Die legendären Verhandlungen zwischen Graf Luckner und Mj.Gen. Terry Allen von den Timberwölfen sollten auf dem Markt nachgestellt werden.

Die Aktion wurde umgesetzt, und so segelten sogar Nachdrucke der seitens der amerikanischen Truppen abgeworfenen Flugblätter vom Himmel, abgeworfen dieses Mal nicht von Flugzeugen sondern den Hausmannstürmen, wobei Flugzeuglärm aus der Konserve eine schöne Authentizität herstellten. Die Schauspieler stellten die Verhandlungen nach und die ganze Aktion wurde von einem großen Medienaufgebot begleitet; sogar eine Liveberichterstattung in Funk und Fernsehen gab es.

Weit über tausend Besucher wohnten der Veranstaltung bei, viele hatten Tränen in den Augen. Feierlich wurde nach Gebeten von evangelischer und katholischer Seite das Vaterunser gebetet sowie der Choral “Nun danket alle Gott” gesungen. Dann begab man sich zum Kaufhaus Wöhrl und zur Tafel für die Retter der Stadt, wo zunächst der Präsident unserer Gesellschaft den Anwesenden weitere Informationen zum Tag gab und hiernach Frau Dr. Helena Schrader als Vertreterin der US-amerikanischen Regierung (Konsulin im Generalkonsulat der USA in Leipzig) ihre Sicht auf die Dinge gab.

Präsident Maurer hatte insbesondere auf das Motto der Veranstaltung verwiesen, das hier nochmals wiederholt werden soll:

Die Felix Graf von Luckner Gesellschaft e.V. ehrt die stillen Helden, Frauen und Männer unserer Heimatstadt Halle a.d. Saale
die in den Apriltagen des Jahre 1945 ein deutliches Fanal zur Beendigung des Krieges setzten.

Diese Hallenser Hatten damals ihre rückseitigen Hausdächer, ihre Gärten und Höfe deutlich sichtbar mit weißen Tüchern ausgelegt.
Mit dieser Geste gaben sie den über Halle kreisenden amerikanischen Flugzeugen ein unmißverständliches Zeichen:
“Wir wollen nicht mehr kämpfen, wir wollen nur noch Frieden!”

Diesen mutigen Menschen gebührt unser Dank! 

Today the museum of local history here in Halle received an item on loan by our society. Long time ago we could purchase a compass used by von Luckner during his “Good-Will-Tours” on the ship “Vaterland”. The compass for at least 10 years will be part of the exhibition about the history of Halle. This will be opened on May 11 this year and we are happy that we can support this project.

During the last soccer game in the stadium of Halle among other famous men the “Sea Devil” Felix Count von Luckner was to be seen in a huge banner made by fans of our soccer club named HFC. Thank you for doing this. By the way Halle won the game versus Rostock 3:1

Next Tuesday, the new book on Count von Luckner will be introduced by the author in the biggest book store in Halle, the Thalia-Bookhouse.

Soon our members will be informed on the details concerning shipping and handling, because the book can be ordered via our society.

From now on the new book of Wolfgang Seilkopf will be available.

Today the first copies were delivered to our office and will be offered at our Christmas Market.

The author will be there to sign your personal copy of the book.

Wir veranstalten am 3. Advent unseren ersten Weihnachtsmarkt zusammen mit dem Chor “Hallesaaler” aus Halle.

Ab 15.00 Uhr sind wir am Sitz unserer internationalen Gesellschaft vor Ort.

Die “Alte Post” sorgt mit ihrem Team für Glühwein, Kinderpunsch und andere weihnachtliche Köstlichkeiten.

A new book about Felix Count von Luckner may be the perfect present for Christmas. The historian of our society, Wolfgang Seilkopf, knows many details on his biography and did researches over many years and collected a huge amount of pictures.

Some of the pictures had never been published before. The book is written in English and German; so it will be a perfect present for the international market too including our members worldwide. The foreword was written by the President of our society.

The book will be available from December 13, just in time to be delivered before Christmas!

The Hurricane Sandy caused the loss of many lives and severe damages at the Eastern coast of the USA. Simply small is the loss of one ship compared to that but for us as a nautical orientated society the loss of the filmship Bounty is a special thing. It had been built between 1960 and 1961 for the film “Mutiny of the Bounty” starring among others Marlon Brando. Of course, the loss of Claudene Christian, a member of the crew, is a special tragedy. The captain himself is still missing. Against this background the loss of the Bounty indeed seems to be minor matter, nevertheless…

…bye, bye Bounty!

On September 28. we at the headquarters of our society a little von Luckner festivity using that opportunity to inform our local members on the latest state of affairs and the “von Luckner Vault” which is still under reconstruction. We had wonderful weather, in German called “Kaiserwetter”, for us from now on this will be the “Lucknerwetter” (von Lucknerweather). The real highlight of the evening was the coir “Hallesaaler” who were our guests and sang some songs for us; shanty of course. We were very happy about that and are looking forward to our next meeting. Our President informed about our actual work and some  items we got purchased or donations.
