The mayor of Lidice participated in the ringing of the peace bells

The ringing of the “Peace Bells of Halle” once again marked a highlight of our association’s activities this year, continuing a long-standing tradition. At our invitation, the mayor of Lidice, Veronika Kellerová, along with her partner, extended their visit to Halle, which had been planned for just a few hours the day before, and stayed until April 19th to listen to the ringing of the Peace Bells together with the Luckner Society and other citizens of the city.

It was a great pleasure and and honor, and we are very much looking forward to our return visit to Lidice in June of this year. May the strong connection between the people of Lidice and Halle lead to lasting reconciliation and deep friendship.

It is also worth mentioning that we received a white flag from a peace initiative in Halle as a token of appreciation for our work. Ms. Helena Romanus had specifically chosen a historical fabric from her grandmother’s estate for this purpose, so it is theoretically possible that this fabric was already used as a white flag in 1945 and was seen by US troops.

The white flag, as a powerful symbol of dialogue and the immediate cessation of hostilities, will play an even more prominent role in our association’s work in the future.
