Inauguration of a commemoration plaque für Forster
The natural scientist and Halle professor Johann Reinhold Researcher is honored with a commemorative plaque on the “Lower Saale Valley” nature trail between Mücheln and Döblitz.
On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the circumnavigation of the globe by James Cook and the natural scientists Johann Reinhold Forster and son Georg Forster, the International Felix Graf Luckner Society e.V. donated a memorial plaque that will be ceremoniously unveiled on Saturday, June 24th, 2023, at 2:30 p.m.
The banks of the Saale are inaugurated (park at the Templar Chapel and walk a few hundred meters along the river bank towards Halle).
In the years 1773-1774, the naturalists also discovered and described the South Sea atoll Mopelia, which many years later in 1917 became the involuntary residence of the “Seeteufel” Count Luckner and his crew as well as prisoners of war after their shipwreck with the “Seeadler”.
The circumstances just mentioned as well as the international orientation of our company were the background for us to take on this matter.
The event is public – interested parties are warmly welcome.
80th anniversary – death of the Scholl siblings
We quote the words of the White Rose Foundation e.V., which commemorate an anniversary. We join in this remembrance.
“Today marks the 80th anniversary of the execution of the defendants in the first White Rose trial. Hans and Sophie Scholl as well as Christoph Probst were brought before the People’s Court presided over by Roland Freisler around 10 a.m. The verdict was handed down just three hours later: death penalty. Yes This had previously been agreed informally between the Munich Gauleiter Giesler and the head of the Reich Chancellery Bormann. At 5 p.m. on the same day, Hans and Sophie Scholl as well as Christoph Probst were beheaded with the guillotine in the Munich-Stadelheim prison. We received new showcases
Four high-quality showcases were made available to us from the holdings of the Halle City Archives after they had been discarded there.
The highlight is that the same showcases were also donated to the city archives about 30 years ago by the association of former Halle residents. Of course, Count Luckner was a member of this club, and so the circle closes. We are pleased about the enrichment of our museum and will be using the display cases for the next museum night at the latest.
