Inauguration of a commemoration plaque für Forster

The natural scientist and Halle professor Johann Reinhold Researcher is honored with a commemorative plaque on the “Lower Saale Valley” nature trail between Mücheln and Döblitz.

On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the circumnavigation of the globe by James Cook and the natural scientists Johann Reinhold Forster and son Georg Forster, the International Felix Graf Luckner Society e.V. donated a memorial plaque that will be ceremoniously unveiled on Saturday, June 24th, 2023, at 2:30 p.m.

The banks of the Saale are inaugurated (park at the Templar Chapel and walk a few hundred meters along the river bank towards Halle).

In the years 1773-1774, the naturalists also discovered and described the South Sea atoll Mopelia, which many years later in 1917 became the involuntary residence of the “Seeteufel” Count Luckner and his crew as well as prisoners of war after their shipwreck with the “Seeadler”.

The circumstances just mentioned as well as the international orientation of our company were the background for us to take on this matter.

The event is public – interested parties are warmly welcome.
